Newly Elected NAACP President

DERRICK JOHNSON PRESIDENT AND CEO On October 21, 2017, the executive committee of the NAACP National Board of Directors elected Derrick Johnson President and CEO. Derrick Johnson formerly served as vice chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors as well as state president for the Mississippi State Conference NAACP. A longstanding member and leader of the NAACP, Mr. Johnson will guide the Association through a period of re-envisioning and reinvigoration. Until a new president is selected, Mr. Johnson will serve as the NAACP’s primary spokesperson. Born in Detroit, Mr. Johnson attended Tougaloo College in Jackson, MS. Congratulations to our Queen Mary!! Thanks to Mary Jones Phillips for representing the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP and bringing home the crown. She will begin her reign at the NAACP National Convention WIN Power Brunch in Baltimore Md. Mary will be an inspiration to other young women across the state during her reign as NC State NAACP 2017 Women/Mother of the Year.
