NC NAACP: Stance on Protecting the Incarcerated

Read this letter from NC NAACP President Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman to Governor Roy Cooper, and then take action by contacting the governor's office to protect the incarcerated.

COVID-19 crosses all boundaries affecting North Carolinians within all the various communities that exist. Governor Cooper declared North Carolina in a state of emergency on March 6, 2020 by enacting Executive Order 116. One of the communities that have no control over their safety and lives are those that are incarcerated in our prisons, jails and detention centers.

The goal is to flood the Governor’s Office with calls in support of this action. You can simply say, “I’m calling to request that Governor Cooper would adhere to the request of the NC NAACP to ensure the safety of those incarcerated.”

Remember if we don’t pick up the mantel to assist this vulnerable community who will. You can reach the Governor’s Office at 919-814-2000. Again please call several times and encourage your base to do the same.
