Help the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP fund renewable scholarships

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP awards annual, renewable scholarships to high school seniors selected from among the four high schools in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School System, recognizing academic achievement, civic engagement, leadership qualities and strong character.

This is the first time we've ever had to do our annual fundraising for scholarships in a digital-only format. Like so many other people in our community and around the world, we're adjusting to our new normal.

We realize that not everyone can afford to contribute during this time of crisis and uncertainty. But if you are able, we ask you to support our scholarship program. Because together we can work toward a better future. And now, more than ever, tomorrow matters.

What's new in 2020

The lives of Fred Battle and Dr. Charlie van der Horst exemplify the best of our humanity. They led their lives with purpose. They treated others as they would be treated. They lifted others up and sacrificed their personal comfort to lend a hand.

Although they have passed away, they still inspire and challenge us to do likewise. That's why starting in 2020 we have renamed two of our scholarships in honor of these two men.
