Who and What: Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Northern Orange County NAACP branches will kick off 2018 early voting with “Early Voting Sunday” events in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough. Organized in conjunction with area churches and other community organizations, polling places will be open nearby so attendees can vote right away. Refreshments will be served and music will be provided.

North Carolina State Senator Valerie Foushee will speak at Carrboro event on October 21.

Gospel recording artist Jennifer Evans will perform at the Carrboro event on October 21.

US Representative David Price will speak at Hillsborough event on October 21.

The UNC Gospel Choir will perform at Chapel of the Cross Church event in Chapel Hill on October 28.

When and where: All events are 12 to 3:30 PM. Polling places will be open for voting 1 to 3PM.

Why: The NAACP is committed to increasing voter turnout for all North Carolina elections. Studies have shown that early voting leads to more participation by a more diverse group of voters. Early voting also leads to less stress on voters and the voting system because the lines are so much shorter lines on Election Day. In fact, there is usually no waiting at all during early voting. With early voting, if there are problems with a voter’s registration or voting system glitches, early voting provides time to correct those problems so that anyone with a legitimate right to vote may do so.
