UNC walk out and rally April 24

Writer: Chapel Hill Carrboro NAACPChapel Hill Carrboro NAACP

On Wednesday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m., UNC students are organizing a walk out to protest police violence and UNC collaboration with white supremacy.

They will rally outside Wilson Library on campus.

Those charged with toppling the UNC confederate monument are on trial in Hillsborough on April 25-26, and student activists encourage supporters to attend the hearing if possible.

The students are hoping to organize fundraisers at the April 24 rally for possible fines and anticipated restitution fees of those on trial.

The activists have published a list of their demands of UNC's administration, which are the primary focus of the rally.

The university, meanwhile, released a statement regarding the event saying it is "working closely with town officials and law enforcement to ensure the safety of our communities."
